Border Patrol, CBP named as shooters in Minnesota killing
The shooting death of Alex Pretti has officially been ruled a homicide, according to new findings from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner — a classification that adds fuel to an already explosive case.
Documents obtained by TMZ state Pretti died from multiple gunshot wounds, with the medical examiner explicitly listing the cause as “shot by law enforcement officer(s).” The report was signed by Dr. Andrew Baker.
Pretti, who was 37 years old, stood 5-foot-10 and weighed 147 pounds. He was divorced and would have turned 38 next month, according to the records.
As previously reported, Pretti was shot and killed in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026, during an encounter involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent and a Customs and Border Protection officer — just 11 days after a prior street altercation with immigration officers.
The ruling does not determine criminal liability, but the homicide classification sharply raises questions about the use of force by federal agents, especially amid nationwide tension surrounding immigration enforcement.
Pretti’s body has since been released to a funeral home as investigations continue.
This case remains under intense scrutiny, with civil rights concerns and public pressure mounting as more details come to light.
