The northeastern United States and southeastern Canada felt the effects of post-tropical Lee. From high waves up to 6 meters high, as well as intense winds with constant rain.
“Lee” made landfall as a post-tropical cyclone, with gale-force winds in western Nova Scotia. After its impact, it severely flooded roads and highways, uprooted trees, causing severe damage to the electrical and drainage infrastructure, generating consequences such as cutting off the electricity supply to hundreds of people in the region.
The latest advisory issued by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the United States indicated that “Lee” was moving north after making landfall on Long Island, a small island southwest of Halifax.
As observed by surrounding weather stations, the cyclone was recording maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h (65 mph), with stronger gusts. In addition, coastal flooding and heavy rain were recorded on parts of the coast of Maine in the northeastern United States and on the Canadian Atlantic coast.
According to reports, at least one death so far is related to the storm. Unfortunately, a motorist in the state of Maine died after a tree fell on his vehicle, media from those states reported.
One of the advantages was that in anticipation of the impact of “Lee”, the administration of US President Joe Biden issued an emergency declaration for the states of Maine and Massachusetts, providing federal assistance.
