Officials accuse the Minnesota congresswoman of spreading “egregious lies” and inciting political tension after controversial remarks online.
The White House sharply criticized Representative Ilhan Omar following a social media post referencing President Donald Trump and the Epstein files.
In a statement, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said it should “deeply concern every single American” that Omar was allegedly spreading false claims and escalating political rhetoric. Officials further called on Democratic leaders to publicly condemn the remarks.
The controversy stems from a post in which Omar criticized Trump while referencing his past association with Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex offenses and died in federal custody in 2019. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has stated he severed ties with Epstein decades ago.
In recent months, renewed attention to documents connected to Epstein has reignited partisan clashes in Washington. The White House characterized Omar’s comments as irresponsible and inflammatory, particularly given the broader climate of political tension.
Trump, speaking Tuesday night, referred to Omar as a “fake congresswoman,” though he did not clarify the meaning of the remark.
The exchange highlights the increasingly combative tone surrounding discussions of the Epstein files and underscores how quickly social media statements can escalate into national political disputes.
As investigations and public scrutiny continue, the episode adds another layer to an already volatile political environment.
