Police Say 84-Year-Old Nancy Guthrie Was Taken by Force as FBI, Border Patrol Join Desperate Search
A terrifying new twist in the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother — authorities now say Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her bed in the middle of the night.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirms the 84-year-old was taken by force from her home in the upscale Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona. Sheriff Chris Nanos tells TMZ investigators believe Nancy was removed directly from her bedroom, setting off an urgent, multi-agency manhunt.
Law enforcement says they are reviewing surveillance footage from Guthrie’s home, nearby residences, businesses, and traffic cameras, while also canvassing registered sex offenders and other persons of interest in the area. No suspect has been identified so far.
Adding to the alarm, police say time is critical — Nancy lives alone, suffers from poor health, and requires daily medication. Authorities have now brought in the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, deploying specially trained K-9 units to help track her movements.
Officials have not disclosed whether there were signs of a struggle, blood inside the home, or forced entry, but homicide detectives are actively involved — underscoring the seriousness of the case.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night at her Tucson residence and was reported missing Sunday afternoon. From the start, investigators labeled the circumstances “very concerning.”
Savannah Guthrie issued an emotional statement as the search intensifies, saying:
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
The investigation is ongoing.
