Savannah Guthrie Faces Nightmare as Mom Vanishes Under “Concerning Circumstances”

Homicide detectives join search after TODAY anchor’s 84-year-old mother disappears near Tucson, Arizona

Authorities in Arizona are searching for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY show anchor Savannah Guthrie, after she was reported missing under what officials describe as “concerning circumstances.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says Nancy was last seen Saturday night near her home in the Tucson area. According to Sheriff Chris Nanos, she was last confirmed at her residence between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m.

A family member contacted 911 around noon Sunday to report her missing, triggering an immediate response from local authorities.

During a briefing, Sheriff Nanos revealed investigators found disturbing conditions at the home, prompting homicide detectives to assist in the case. While officials stressed the investigation is currently classified as a search and rescue operation, they also made clear that foul play has not been ruled out.

Search efforts remain active and extensive, with air and ground teams canvassing the surrounding area. Nancy Guthrie is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

In a public statement, Savannah Guthrie thanked supporters for the outpouring of concern, saying:

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”

The case has drawn national attention due to Guthrie’s high-profile role at NBC, as viewers and colleagues alike await updates on the search.
